Smart City Technical Meeting with Mr. Shannon Dunne, Senior Assistant Director Wastewater Operations

The second meeting of the day had a very hot topic, very actual and highly relevant for both administrations: smart city technologies and their implementation. The discussion, after the initial exchange of opinions on the concept of smart city and the main issues related to it, entered a very fruitful exchange of ideas of real life implementation and practical solutions.

Iasi, through the intense work of its representative, Mr. Juravle, is very close to having a real plan to implement smart city technologies. The traffic monitoring and urban mobility using smart eco-friendly electrical scooters, free Wi-Fi in public places and in public transportation vehicles and open government policy are already in advanced phases of planning and negotiations and have a period of two years for implementation.

Iasi delegation shared their experience and their ideas on the ideal path of implementation, given the specifics of the city and its citizens. Iasi is part of open government partnership together with Austin.

The American partners joined the discussion and, given the specialty of their main representative oriented the discussion towards a very interesting topic, and a vital one nonetheless: the problem of wastewaters management.

They both agreed that this is a crucial issue for both cities and one that can amply benefit from the new “intelligent” technologies. Each team experience and knowledge came into play and some very interesting and very useful ideas emerged, both cities can benefit from.

Given the fact that the water company in Iasi is a very modern and efficient one, highly technologized through massive investments in the last decade, Iasi delegation launched an invitation for the continuation of the discussions with work visits and practical sessions in Iasi, invitation that was gladly accepted by the American group.
