Following the first economic mission that accompanied the Mayor of Iasi, in 2017, and the initial contact and discussions that took place in Houston, the American giant American Micro Devices (AMD) decided to open in Iasi a new Design Center. The new AMD design center employs a diverse team of engineers (more than 400 new jobs) focused on furthering both hardware and software innovations at the heart of the company’s leading high-performance computing solutions.

“Our team in Romania will focus on key design developments for future CPU core architectures and AMD Infinity Fabric™ technology that will help accelerate next-generation computing experiences.” said Steven Hesley, corporate vice president Silicon Design Engineering at AMD in their press release from 10.01.2021

The Economic Alliance Port of Houston Region was a partner of Iasi economic missions from the beginning. The meetings Romanian delegation had with the management and members of the Alliance saw two concrete results. First, it used as a raw model for the first Romanian Economic Alliance, founded by one of the participants in the program to promote the model of involvement and support in the regional economy provided by EAPHR. Their knowhow and continuous advice was essential and ensured the successful completion of the Romanian counterpart. Following the new meeting, that took place in March 2023, a Romanian company, which operates throughout Europe (ModPack), entered the list of partners of EAPHR for services related to industrial logistics and relocation. The Romanian company is already working in establishing a base of operations in Houston to be able to respond to the needs of the business community here. During the same meeting the Alliance was ensured by the full support of Iasi administrative apparatus for a consistent and fruitful collaboration between the two economic regions.
